Training
Video Cairo Sat has been a leading force in the training and development of broadcast professionals in Egypt and throughout the Arab world. The company’s diverse training programs hold true to the concept that true professionalism emerges not from academic analysis, but through hands-on experience. VCS-trained engineers, cameramen, producers, correspondents, and editors have been staffing the leading regional media outlets for years, and newsrooms throughout the Middle East are staffed with VCS alumni.
Too often, young talented professionals do not have the financial resources to seek a formal education in media and broadcasting, and are therefore excluded from a field that would otherwise speak to their interests and abilities. VCS maintains an open-door policy of recruitment, whereby a candidate need not have formal education or professional experience to become a full-time trainee. It is a unique program, and one that has produced some of the most respected technicians and journalists working in the industry today.
In addition to a long-standing mentorship with the Adham for Television Journalism at the American University of Cairo, VCS has a “workshop” mentality. Trainees are instructed in real world skills, with the intent to properly arm them for a career in broadcasting. They work alongside talented men and women in their chosen discipline, and hone their skills in studios, newsrooms, and on location. Indeed, many trainees themselves are hired directly by Video Cairo Sat following their instruction.
More than mere technical training, participants are given careful guidance in how they approach the ethical aspects of the profession, from editorial judgment to anti-discrimination practices. In a region where political and cultural borders often prevent collaboration, VCS trainees are taught that true professionalism is not exclusive to race, gender or faith. Technicians and journalists from Jerusalem to Khartoum have not only received training from VCS, but employment and partnership opportunities in the years thereafter
